I’ve had this hoop forever it seems like. I bought it to make a dream catcher and I’ve finally done it. I tried to make mine as simple as possible. You don’t really need much to re-create this one. Casey had all these granny squares hanging around the house so I figured I would make use of one of them. You can see directions on how to make one here. You will also need a hoop, ribbon in assorted colors, extra yarn, feathers, beads and some scissors.

As you can see, the granny square is much smaller than the hoop. You want it to be like that because we will be stretching it out.

String the yarn through each corner and tie around the edge of the hoop. This may be easier with a large needle.

Cut off the extra yarn off so it won’t be in your way.

Next you will just weave yarn in and out of sections of the granny square and around the hoop. The great thing is, this doesn’t have to be perfect.

Next you will pull the yarn as tight as it will go and it will stretch out the square. Then tie a knot with the two ends and cut the extra yarn off.

Now you can cut the original yarn pieces off that you had put through the corners.

Next tie ribbon to the end of the hoop in whatever colors you want. You can see the colors I used above.

String two beads onto a ribbon.

Tie a knot in the ribbon where you want the feather to start and slide the top of the feather through the knot before you tighten it.

Tighten the knot.

Slide the beads over the top of the feather and the knot. Repeat this on as many ribbons as you would like.

To change it up a little I did the beads a little different on one of the strands. Slide the bead on…

Then put the strand through the bead in the same direction you did before…

And then put the strand through again, in the same direction, but on the other side. I actually ended up adding another feather and bead the way I did the first feather.

You’ll need a way to hang the dream catcher so all you need to do is get a string or ribbon or whatever strand of something you like.

Tie the ends of the strand in a knot.

Put the piece under the hoop where you want the center to be.

Pull one side through the other…

And tighten.

I put a bead over the strand to cover the knot.

And this is my dream catcher all finished! It was super simple and didn’t take much time at all. If you already have a granny square lying around like I did, you can have this project done in no time!

1. You will need a flat board to attach your knobs unto. You can be creative with this. For my board I’m using a piece of driftwood that I found on this trip to the beach.

I got 4 out of my 5 knobs from our local habitat for humanity store for less than $1.00.

2. Measure and drill the holes for your knobs.

3. Attach your knobs to the board using the already drilled holes.

4. Attach the finished project to the wall and hang your necklaces!

and now my necklaces are officially organized!

How to make Soy Candles
Purchase from your local craft shop or candle supplier soy wax flakes, a tempered wick with base and essential oils for fragrance. Special colour for candles can be added too but add a little at a time and be aware that it will change colour slightly when set, but that’s half the fun

Simply melt wax in a double boiler over stove. Add desired essential oil. Pour wax into a heat-resistant cup, ramekin or other china that can withstand heat. Leave to congeal for about 10 minutes and insert wick with base. Leave to fully set. Trim wick > Light > Sniff > Enjoy….That’s it!

Calling all crafty moms and teachers…. I have a fun, unique and sweet project for your kiddos! Painting with M&M’s!!

Now, now… I know this is not a recipe but it does involve food and more importantly chocolate!!

While I am visiting my family in PA, one of my favorite things to do is go to work with my mom.  What?? Why would I want to go to work while I am on vacation?? You see… my mom is a preschool teacher so going to work with her means hanging out with cute three and four year-old kiddies.  Now I know the idea of spending an entire morning with a group of preschoolers might sound daunting to some BUT I love it!

This week in school my mom has been teaching the kids about the FIVE senses: sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste. So when she spotted this craft idea on Pinterest for painting with M&M’s she knew she wanted to try it out with her class!

This craft covers all of the senses!

SIGHT - Sorting the M&M’s by color.

TOUCH - Describing the texture of the M&Ms while sorting.

HEARING - Listening to the M&M’s being stirred in the cups.

SMELL - Smelling the M&M colored water while painting.

TASTE - After the craft was over… my mom let the kids munch on a few M&Ms during snack time.

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:

Take a one pound bag of M&M’s and empty in a bowl. (The amount of M&M’s will vary based on the group size.)

Have your kids sort them by color into individual cups.

Once sorted, pour enough water to cover the M&M’s and begin stirring with paint brushes.

Once the color of the water has changed you are ready to paint!!

Check out these beautiful pictures created by some of my mom’s students!!

Painting never looked, smelled, sounded, felt and tasted (afterwards) so good!!  Pretty sweet!!
